A shirt tie is part of regular office attire or formal wear. It can be also worn as part of a uniform. The use of coloured and patterned neckties indicating the wearer’s membership in a club, military regiment, school,…dates only from the late 19s century England. In the US, diagonally striped ties are commonly worn with no connotation of group membership. Different neckties sizing are nowadays available. The perfect traditional tie is a sufficiently heavy and thick tie in order to hang perfectly. It is mostly worn closed but can be ‘casual’ with a top shirt button unbuttoned.
