THE BIVOLINO GUIDE

Collar and cuff guide

With or without a tie, for everyday wear or a ceremony: the details that give your shirt its character.

Start with how you wear your shirt

With a tie

A classic collar is a versatile starting point. For a wider spread, choose a knot that fills the space between the points without lifting them.

Without a tie

A button-down collar keeps its points in place and suits a relaxed look. A spread collar gives a dressier line under a jacket.

For a ceremony

Match the collar to your suit and chosen accessory. If wearing a bow tie, check how it looks with the collar before deciding.

PROPORTIONS

A collar that suits you

For a long face, a wider spread collar can add a horizontal line. For a round face, longer points can emphasise vertical lines. These are style suggestions, not rules: comfort and personal preference come first.

Also check the collar band height and space around your neck. Neck size is part of your measurements; collar shape is a matter of style.

Which cuff should you choose?

Single, rounded or square

An easy everyday choice. Rounded edges soften the shape; square edges give a sharper line. Compare the available designs and lengths.

French cuff

Fastened with cufflinks, it suits formal outfits. Choose suitable cufflinks and check that it sits comfortably under your jacket.

With a watch

Allow comfortable room around your wrist and check the watch fits under the sleeve. A bulky watch may require an adjustment: ask for advice if needed.
